THE 20 CHILDREN
Surcis Goldinger
Surcis Goldinger came from Poland; probably from Ostrowiec. When she was brought to Neuengamme Concentration Camp on 28 November 1944, she was ten or eleven years old. On 20 April 1945 she was murdered here at Bullenhuser Damm.
The surname Goldinger in this spelling is one of the names on the list of children published by Henry Meyer in his book “Rapport fra Neuengamme” in 1945. Rose Grumelin-Witónska, the mother of Roman and Eleonora Witónski, made an enquiry of the International Tracing Service for a little girl called “Surcis Goldfinger”. The International Tracing Service told her that the little girl was probably taken from the slave labor camp at Ostrowiec to Auschwitz Concentration Camp in a group of 306 prisoners on 3 August 1944.
A play house named after Surcis Goldinger was opened in Hamburg-Burgwedel in 1999.
