International tribunal
1986

In 1986, a tribunal lasting several days was held at the memorial site on Bullenhuser Damm. The tribunal was represented by lawyers from the various countries affected by the Nazi occupation. The former constitutional judge Martin Hirsch chaired the tribunal.

The aim of the tribunal was to shed light on the events and background to the Bullenhuser Damm murders and the question of why Arnold Stippel, one of the main suspects for the Bullenhuser Damm murders, was not brought to justice. The legal background to the many years of inactivity on the part of the German judiciary in the case of Nazi criminals was examined.

During the trial, excerpts from the transcripts of the "Curiohaus trial" of 1946 were read out and witnesses, relatives and expert witnesses were heard. According to the lawyers, the delay was inexcusable, but exemplary for the treatment of perpetrators by the judiciary.
