Günther Schwarberg:

“I asked myself, what use is being a journalist if you don’t write this story down as accurately as possible? Maybe somewhere in the world there are still parents or siblings who don’t know what happened to their children and who are still looking for them.”

Günther Schwarberg and his wife Barbara Hüsing searched for possible surviving relatives of the murdered children using, among other things, leaflets in various languages. They succeeded for the majority of them. Since 1979, living relatives of 17 of the children have been found.

Walter Jungleib was identified in 2015, 70 years after his death. Sara Goldfinger’s real name was only discovered in 2021. These most recent discoveries have led to further discoveries about their family trees and living relatives.

This demonstrates that research on the children and efforts to find living relatives continue to this day—eighty years after the Shoah.
